35xxxv (pronounced "Thirty-Five") is ONE OK ROCK's seventh studio album, marking a major transition in the band's career. It was their first album to be recorded entirely in the United States (at Studio 606 in L.A., owned by Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl) and the first to fully embrace a more global sound and production style. The album blends emotional Japanese lyricism with Western rock influences, combining powerful ballads, post-hardcore riffs, and arena-ready anthems.
The title "35xxxv" is a play on the Roman numeral "XXXV" (35) and symbolizes the band's goal of breaking into the global rock scene — a mission that would begin with this very record.
The album showcases tighter songwriting, increased use of English lyrics compared to previous releases, and a clean, powerful sound produced for international appeal.
- Re-recorded vocals in English for international listeners
- Slightly altered mixes on some tracks
- Adds 2 exclusive tracks: Last Dance and The Way Back
- Features Tyler Carter (formally from Issues) on the song Decision, replacing the original Japanese guest vocals
The album debuted at number 1 on the Oricon Albums Chart, spent over 115 weeks on the Japanese charts, and was certified Platinum by the RIAJ for shipping over 250,000 copies. The Deluxe Edition reached number 1 on Billboard's World Albums chart and number 11 on the Heatseekers Albums chart, earning praise for its polished English delivery and globally oriented production quality.
35xxxv is widely seen as the turning point in ONE OK ROCK's career — the moment they shifted from being a major act in Japan to a rising international rock force. It balances authenticity with ambition, Japanese roots with Western influences, and set the tone for their global journey.
