Biography
Beginning of the carrier

Takahiro Moriuchi, professionally known as Taka, is the lead vocalist of the Japanese rock band ONE OK ROCK. Born on April 17, 1988, in Tokyo, Japan, he is the eldest son of renowned Japanese singers Masako Mori and Shinichi Mori.

He has two younger brothers: Tomohiro, who works at TV Tokyo, and Hiroki Moriuchi, the lead singer of the band MY FIRST STORY. His sister-in-law is model and actress Maika Yamamoto.

Taka attended Keio Elementary School, graduating in March 2001, and continued his education at Keio Middle School. He briefly attended Keio High School before leaving in March 2005 to pursue a music career, a decision initially met with resistance from his parents. Following their divorce in April 2005, he changed his surname from Moriuchi - his father name (森内) to Morita - his mather name (森田). However, by 2012, he reverted to using Moriuchi, as evidenced by interviews and photographs where he and his bandmates displayed their real names.

Taka's musical journey began in 2001 when he joined Johnny's Entertainment at the age of 13, becoming part of Johnny's Junior. In September 2003, he was selected as a member of the idol group NEWS. November 7, he debuted with NEWS with the single NEWS Nippon, which included the theme song for the 2003 Volleyball World Cup. He departed the group and the agency in December of the same year.

In 2004, he briefly participated in the cover band Chivalry of Music.

In 2005, guitarist Toru Yamashita invited him to join ONE OK ROCK as the lead vocalist. The band released their first independent CD in 2006 and subsequently signed with Amuse, Inc., marking their major debut in 2007. Under Taka's leadership, ONE OK ROCK has toured extensively across Japan and internationally, including Asia, the U.S., Europe, and South America.

Personality

Taka's personality is described as ambitious, honest, impatient, stubborn, and playful. He exhibits a passionate temperament and often engages in teasing his bandmates, particularly Tomoya. Despite his impulsive nature, he values genuine connections and considers his bandmates as family.

In Instagram Live session on July 2, 2024 Taka revealed his struggle with panic disorder, experiencing symptoms like palpitations, sweating, and anxiety. He shared this to raise awareness and encourage others facing similar challenges, emphasizing the importance of understanding and support.

Vocal abilities and song writing
Song writing

Taka's vocal prowess is characterized by a wide and dynamic range, smooth transitions between registers, emotive delivery, and powerful projection. Experts recognize him as one of the most well-trained rock vocalists in the current music scene. His high tenor voice allows him to hold high notes for extended periods, showcasing remarkable breath control and versatility.

As the primary lyricist and composer for ONE OK ROCK, Taka draws inspiration from personal experiences and emotions, aiming to forge deep connections with listeners. He often writes lyrics in English, despite not being fluent, demonstrating his commitment to reaching a global audience. The song Nobody's Home from the album Niche Syndrome reflects his feelings of apology and gratitude toward his parents. This track was performed at several concerts, including an emotional performance on May 26, 2013, during the ONE OK ROCK 2013 "Jinsei x Kimi =" TOUR at Yokohama Arena, where Taka's parents were present. While the official live DVD was recorded the day prior (May 25), elements of Taka's heartfelt delivery in front of his parents were captured and can be heard in ONE OK ROCK 2013 "Life × You =" FILM.

While Taka has traditionally focused on personal experiences in his songwriting, ONE OK ROCK's 2025 album DETOX marks a notable shift towards addressing political themes. Tracks like Delusion:All delve into disillusionment and skepticism towards societal and political systems, reflecting the band's engagement with contemporary global issues. This evolution in their music indicates a broader commentary on the current state of the world, showcasing Taka's and the band's commitment to spreading messages of peace and political awareness through their art.

Vocal range

Taka has demonstrated a remarkable vocal range and development throughout his tenure with ONE OK ROCK. His vocal range spans from G♯2 to G♯5, showcasing his ability to navigate both low and high registers effectively. This vocal range is three full octaves, which is quite impressive, especially for a rock vocalist. And what makes it even more special is that he doesn't just hit those notes — he does it with control, emotion, and grit. Throughout the band's two-decade career, Taka has showcased his vocal versatility across various songs and albums, demonstrating significant growth and adaptability. Taka's vocal journey with ONE OK ROCK reflects continuous growth and exploration. His ability to navigate a wide vocal range, coupled with his emotive delivery and evolving style, has solidified his reputation as a versatile and powerful vocalist in the rock genre.

Early Career Development

In the band's formative years, Taka's naturally high tenor voice was evident. He comfortably belted notes in the upper fourth and lower fifth octaves. For instance, in the album Kanjō Effect (2008), he reached up to F♯5, illustrating his early capability to hit high notes with ease.

Mid-Career Development

As ONE OK ROCK progressed, Taka began exploring and expanding his vocal range. In JINSEI x BOKU = (2013), he extended his lower range down to G♯2, as heard in tracks like Nothing Helps. This period marked his foray into deeper vocal territories, adding richness to the band's sound.

Recent Works

In more recent albums, Taka has continued to utilize his extensive range. In Ambitions (2017), he demonstrated his upper register by reaching G♯5 in songs such as We Are. His ability to transition smoothly between low and high notes has become a hallmark of his vocal style.

In the 2025 album DETOX, Taka continues to showcase his impressive vocal abilities. The track Delusion:All stands out for its mature instrumental arrangement and Taka's striking vocal performance, reflecting his ongoing vocal growth. While there is no confirmed evidence that he exceeds G♯5 on this album, his delivery remains commanding. The performance feels more nuanced and emotionally intense—an indicator of his deepening artistry and control.

Live Performances

Taka's live performances further exemplify his vocal prowess. His breath control and stamina allow him to sustain powerful notes while maintaining an energetic stage presence. Over the years, his live vocals have shown improvement, with stronger and longer-held notes compared to earlier performances.

Stylistic Evolution

Throughout his career, Taka has incorporated more vocal distortion and grit into his singing, adding emotional depth and intensity. This stylistic shift is evident in performances like Deeper Deeper, or Take What You Want, where he leans into raspy notes to convey raw emotion.
